The present progressive is used to express that an action is in progress or repeating at the time of speaking. The action probably started an unspecified amount of time before the time of speaking and will probably continue for an undetermined amount of time after the time of speaking.

The present progressive can also be used to express that something is happening now over a period of time.

The present progressive is used to express that an action or event will happen in the future (usually with a time expression).
